Bio

 Elisa Garcia de la Huerta was born in Santiago, Chile on March 19th, 1983. She received a Bachelor degree in Fine Arts at Universidad Finis Terrae, Chile in 2006. She lived in London, UK in 2007.

In 2008 she received the Chilean Bicentennial National Scholarship to do her master in Fine Arts program at the School of Visual Arts. She currently lives in New York City and is an 2011 SVA MFA Candidate.

 

STATEMENT

 

I wonder how the psyche selects our memories and how these nostalgic images are unconsciously distorted  with newer emotions experienced in our lives.

 

My recent work investigates how our personal history and attachment to place recreate psychological landscapes, which conditioning the relationship of our body language with the environment, transform the body into a reflection of our psychological stages. Therefore, I use video and photo to document performance of private experience in public spaces. I uncover inner pain, sadness, fear, struggle, anger and anxiety through an intuitive process on which strategies of saturation, poise, concealment, camouflage and juxtaposition, reflect emotional gaps between balance and loss.
